Welcome to the ACE Website
Welcome to Brixham ACE, an acronym for Access to Community Education.. We are a friendly group who provide Recreational and Educational Activities for adults with disabilities and respite for carers within Torbay.
We help and support people with disabilities to access courses run both by ACE and the Adult and Community Learning Department, including Swimming, Textiles, Pottery, Art, Computing, Sports Mobility, Literacy, Gardening and Drama.
We encourage members to attend our Thursday group activities providing opportunities to socialise over coffee, to listen to interesting talks and to have a hot lunch. We have had talks on the Coastguards, Local History, Poetry and Climate Change and The Environment.
During the year we organised trips to places of interest such as Slimbridge Wild Fowl Trust and Hannah's at Seale Hayne. (see photo gallery)
We offer ACE members courses at discounted rates and for those who have no transport; ACE operates a subsidised taxi scheme. You can ask for help with transport if you have no other means of attending.

Easter
We had great fun at Easter!
We started with a quiz from Grahame followed by an Easter Bonnet competition with Easter eggs for prizes. The competition was judged by Theresa Chapman, mother of the late Robin Chapman. It took a lot of courage for Theresa to return to ACE so soon after her son's death. We very much enjoyed seeing her again.

Creative Writing Class
This class meets on a Thursday afternoon to read and discuss the works of a wide variety of writers and poets. Class members are encouraged to ‘have a go’ themselves having been stimulated by these authors.
This has led to a collection of inspiring pieces of work of our own.
Using the works of others, Sam Watson will assist you to develop your own style of written expression. You will be encouraged to write individually and as a team. Who knows where these new skills and confidence could lead you?
Volunteers and a care worker are there to assist where necessary.
In 2010 ACE members of The Write Way Group published a booklet of poetry and prose entitled The Write Way. It is available at the ACL reception, Brixham College for £5 for ACE members and £5.50 for non members per copy.
