Welcome to the ACE Website

photo_indexWelcome to Brixham ACE, an acronym for Access to Community Education.. We are a friendly group who provide Recreational and Educational Activities for adults with disabilities and respite for carers within Torbay.

We help and support people with disabilities to access courses run both by ACE and the Adult and Community Learning Department, including Swimming, Textiles, Pottery, Art, Computing, Sports Mobility, Literacy, Gardening and Drama.

We encourage members to attend our Thursday group activities providing opportunities to socialise over coffee, to listen to interesting talks and to have a hot lunch.   We have had talks on the Coastguards, Local History, Poetry and Climate Change and The Environment.

During the year we organised trips to places of interest such as Slimbridge Wild Fowl Trust and Hannah's at Seale Hayne. (see photo gallery)

We offer ACE members courses at discounted rates and for those who have no transport; ACE operates a subsidised taxi scheme.  You can ask for help with transport if you have no other means of attending.

Bee Keeping by Ewart Stanislaus

Honey bees are a social insect that live in large numbers in a hive. They forage in flowers for nectar and pollen and in doing so pollinate the flowers. They have enormous value to mankind by producing honey, beeswax, pollen and pollination.

There are three types of bee in the hive; a Queen who lays all the eggs; Drones, the male bees, who mate with the Queen and female worker bees.

Music Class

ACE Music ClassThe ACE Music Class, under the inspired tuition of Mick Stokes, is a friendly, relaxed group, where you can learn to play instruments like keyboards, drums, percussion instruments, ukulele and guitar to accompany the singing of your popular numbers.

The class, although newly formed, enjoyed performing at our Christmas party this year at South Devon College and I’ve heard a whisper that they are composing their own song for their next recital.

The present members all speak of the fun they are having and are delighted with their personal progress.
